Policy Advisor Fellowship

Host a Policy Advisor Fellow

The biannual Policy Advisor Fellowship pairs early career LEE members with a hosting senior LEE member serving in a high-impact leadership role to deepen fellows' knowledge of local, state, and national policy.

Fellowship overview

  • Six-month, 10-hour-per-week fellowship offered biannually for LEE members who are starting off in their careers

  • Provides individualized support for hosting senior LEE members to increase their ability to refine and execute their education policy goals

  • Enhances the fellow’s skills and network through professional and leadership development, including coaching and  online trainings

Become a host

 

Expectations

  • Provide weekly direction and feedback to the policy advisor during the fellowship.

  • Depending on the mutual goals of hosts and fellows, provide career and leadership coaching to transition the fellow into a full-time role.

  • Receive optional skills training and leadership/management coaching.

Qualifications

  • Significant ability to impact education policy

  • Demonstrated impact for a significant number of high-need students through your work

  • Substantive work to delegate to a fellow

  • Capacity to manage and develop a fellow

Host application & placement process

The Policy Advisor Fellowship will run from September 2018 to March 2019 and again from January 2019 to July 2019.

Candidates to become fellows will complete an application and a phone interview with a LEE staff member. Hosting senior leaders will conduct in-person interviews with policy advisor finalists. 

Timeline

  • The interview and selection process takes place in July/August 2018 for the September cohort and concludes in September/ October for the January cohort

  • The LEE Policy & Advocacy Team will work with senior leaders to help them articulate their needs to drive the recruitment for qualified policy advisors

  • Senior leaders will be notified of their host status by end of June 2018 for the September cohort and by the end of July for the January cohort
