LEE has embarked on one of the most consequential endeavors in our society. Given that education is the civil rights issue of our time, LEE is attempting to build the capacity of former teachers and education leaders to make educational equity a reality in underserved communities across this great nation. Although it is no small task, we are relatively successful because of the wonderful organizational support and development it offers its employees on a continual basis. The organization’s flexibility and transparent professional vulnerabilities is what I like the most. I am able to work from home in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas, where I am able to serve my community as an elected school board member, but also inspire and motivate others to run for office as a member of the Elected Leadership Team.
