Marvin Figueroa: Health, Equity & Justice

From humble beginnings, Marvin Figueroa has built his career around serving others through public policy. Following his post as Deputy Secretary for Health & Human Services for the Commonwealth of Virginia, Marvin was appointed by President Joseph R. Biden to serve as Director of the Office of Intergovernmental and External Affairs at the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. In the episode, Marvin discusses his service with the Virginia Governor, in the U.S. Senate and his approach to advancing equal access to quality, affordable, and accessible social services.

Words of Wisdom: "Government is not a machine... It is people that go back home. It is people that come with opinions. … At the end of the day, it boils down to people, and people want to be seen. People want to be heard. People want to be understood. And if you understand that, [you’ll be able to create] more sustainable policy.”
