Carly Duffey grew up in Colorado but didn’t realize how unequitable education was in her home state until she was volunteering with AmeriCorps. This spurred her to head to the classroom in hopes of making education better for the students there.
Since then, she has participated in several LEE programs that have equipped her with the skills to take her fight to equity to the next level.
“I have strengthened my understanding of how policy directly impacts public education. Additionally, I have met an incredible network of individuals in Denver and across the country who I can collaborate and organize with against inequity in education. All these experiences empowered me to use my voice and experience in the classroom to be an advocate for the students I work with and their families.”
If you, like Carly, are looking to advocate for the students and families that you work with, consider joining the Policy & Advocacy Writing Program. This two-course program is your chance to improve your writing in a low-stakes environment and receive confidential feedback from a LEE policy expert, all while you work toward the goal of ending educational equity.
