“Becoming a Changemaker” Book Talk with LEE’s Public Policy Fellows

On October 11, 2022, LEE Public Policy Fellows and fellowship alumni community came together to discuss Becoming a Changemaker, and reflect on ways to serve as changemakers in their own communities. The book’s author, Alex Budak, a faculty member who created and teaches the popular “Becoming a Changemaker” class at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business, was the featured speaker.

Book Talk & Panel Discussion Overview

In the hour-long gathering, Alex Budak shared key lessons and insights from his 2022 book. Alex was joined by a panel of leaders who currently serve as changemakers in their community. The panel of LEE members included:

  • Shamoyia Gardiner, Executive Director, Strong Schools Maryland
  • Abby Menter, Director of School Leader and Teacher Support, NACA Inspired Schools Network
  • Flavio Bravo, Arizona State Representative-Elect (LD 26)

Shamoyia, Abby, and Flavio shared their personal stories of becoming changemakers. They emphasized the importance of collaboration, self care, and authenticity in their leadership.

Becoming a Changemaker is an actionable and inclusive guide to leading positive change. It features some of the same lessons and assignments Alex created for his students, along with his original research and 50+ changemaker case studies.
