LEE Members in Office
Today, many LEE members serve on elected bodies ranging from local school boards and neighborhood councils to state senates. In these roles, LEE members in office work to change the political context in which schools operate.
Elected Official: Jonathan Fish
Currently, Jonathan is the only LEE member who is an elected judge. Many LEE members have expressed interest in following Jonathan’s path and becoming a judge as well. Recently, Jonathan offered us insights into his role on the bench and the course he took to get there.
Elected Official: Eric Isham
Eric's commitment to enforcing change helped him secure a seat on the Leslie (MI) Board of Education in 2008. In his district, the free and reduced lunch population is at 56% in the elementary school and 43% overall;14% of students have an IEP (Individualized Education Program). Since his election, Eric has become a vocal member of the board, working to meet the needs of this diverse group of students.

When Mike decided to run for a vacant seat in the Colorado State Senate, a few of his close friends offered the following advice, “We love you, but this is not a seat you should run for. If you do, you’ll get killed, and burn bridges.”
Elected Official: Mervan Osborne
With over 20 years of commitment to educational equity LEE member Mervan Osborne was elected to Cambridge School Committee (Cambridge Massachusetts) in January. Mervan was the only winner who was not an incumbent, unseating a committee member.
Elected Official: Brent Tercero
LEE member Brent Tercero sits on the Pico Rivera City Council. As an educator Brent is committed to broadening Pico Rivera's academic environment by including professional tutors, mentoring, and academic instruction.
Elected Official: Kira Orange Jones
Elected in January to the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) District 2 in New Orleans, LEE member Kira Orange Jones believes that every child deserves the opportunity to attend an excellent school and experience great teachers.
