Think You're Too Young to Run?

In case any of you out there are thinking to yourself, I'm not ready to run for public office, I'm too young...I'm too inexperienced, a rash of young people in the area are defying the odds and winning seats.

Yesterday's Philadelphia Inquirer had an article highlighting an 18 year old who defied the odds and beat a GOP-endorsed candidate to win a place on the Republican State Committee.  The article also makes mention of teen mayors in the towns of Mercer and Mount Carbon and Luke Ravenstahl, the 28 year-old mayor of Pittsburgh who is the youngest mayor of any major US city.

Point is, young people are running and winning and so could you!  And our children need you to be part of the decision making impacting the likelihood of students in low-income communities to have an excellent education.  Join the growing group of TFA alumni running for public office today!

Get Youth Involved in MA State Government!

Governor's Youth Council

Governor Patrick has established a Statewide Youth Council as part of his administration's effort to engage and involve citizens of all ages and create opportunities for residents across the Commonwealth.

In the coming months, the state will appoint 28 young leaders to the council - two representatives from each of the Commonwealth's 14 counties - who will speak on behalf of their communities. Massachusetts residents age 14 to 20 are encouraged to apply at www.mass.gov/governor/youthcouncil.

Youth Council members will be on the front lines of policy discussions, sharing what they see in their communities and talking about how state government and communities can work together to find a solution. The issues and recommendations that come out of these meetings will receive prompt consideration at the highest levels of this government.
